The opening of the first phase of the "Gayrettepe - Istanbul Airport" Metro line
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure 'Cahit Turhan' announced that the first phase of the `` Gayrettepe - Istanbul New Airport '' metro line which will connect the center of Istanbul to the new airport will be opened during the year 2019.
The foundation stone of this metro line has been laid since 2016 and its second phase will be opened in 2021.
According to Turhan, the entire line is about 70 km, linking Gayrettepe and #Istanbul_airport, and It consists of 9 stations and has been completed by 23 % so far.
The metro will also connect Istanbul Airport and Halkali area and will be opened in 2020.
The maximum speed of the metro is 120 km and it can carry more than 70,000 passengers in one hour and in one direction.
Istanbul subway is in general is considered one of the fastest means of transportation, and it consists of two lines, one to the south and the other to the north. The metro network serves both the Asian and the European sections and covers most areas of the city of Istanbul.
